Fast X takes over as box office champion this weekend

Jason Momoa in Fast XFast X starring Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa took over the top spot at the box office over this weekend.  The lastest film in the Fast & Furious franchise earned a total of $67.5 million.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 dropped a spot to second place after two weekends on top. The movie, which surpassed the $100 million mark during its first weekend and went on to achieve more than $200 million during its second weekend, grossed another $32 million for a three-week total of $266.5 million. The Super Mario Bros. Movie dropped to third place in its seventh weekend in theaters, earning an additional $9.8 million for an impressive domestic total of $549.3 million.

Also dropping a spot was Book Club: The Next Chapter starring Diane KeatonJane FondaCandice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen. It debuted in third place last weekend and earned another $3 million in fourth place for a two-week total of $13.1 million.

Rounding out the top five was the horror movie Evil Dead Rise, which took in an additional $2.4 million for a five-week total of $64.1 million, in what will likely be its last appearance in the top five after The Little Mermaid debuts next weekend. ~Alexandra Heilbron
