Scary Movie debuts at the top of the weekend box office

The sixth installment of the Scary Movie franchise, also titled Scary Movie, debuted at the top of the box office this weekend. The film took in a total of $55 million in its opening weekend.

In the second spot was the debut of another new film, Masters of the Universe. The origin story of He-Man starring Nicholas Galitzine, Jared Leto, and Idris Elba, took in a total of $29.3 million.

Backrooms, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, dropped to third place this weekend. The film took in another $25.9 million for a two-week total of $135 million.

Obsession slipped down to fourth place this time around, taking in another $26.6 million for a four-week total of $152.1 million.

Rounding out the top five was the debut of The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, which earned a total of $12.7 million.
