Nicholas Braun was born and raised on Long Island, New York. His father is an actor and former graphic designer who co-designed the Rolling Stones' iconic tongue and lips logo.
As a teenager, Nicholas attended boarding school and acted during summer breaks. He later enrolled at Occidental College in Los Angeles as a math major but left after two years to pursue acting full-time.
Nicholas made his film debut in Sky High (2005) and appeared in the Disney Channel original movies Minutemen (2008) and Princess Protection Program (2009). He also co-starred in Date and Switch (2014) and How to Be Single (2016), and played Derrek in the A24 drama Zola (2021), directed by Janicza Bravo and written by Jeremy O. Harris.
In 2018, Nicholas joined the main cast of the HBO drama series Succession as Gregory Hirsch. His performance earned critical acclaim and three Primetime Emmy Award nominations (2020, 2022, and 2023) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Nicholas starred in the Susanna Fogel drama Cat Person (2023), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, then appeared in the fantasy film Dream Scenario (2023), directed by Kristoffer Borgli. He portrayed filmmaker Jim Henson and entertainer Andy Kaufman in the biographical dramedy Saturday Night (2024).
In the comedy The Sheep Detectives (2026) starring Hugh Jackman, he played a bumbling police officer opposite Emma Thompson.
