Accessibility Equipment Failed — Missed the First 20 Minutes of the Movie

We tried to go to Regal on Saturday evening to see The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the experience was incredibly frustrating. One person in our party is hard of hearing and uses hearing aids, so we needed one of the theater’s closed-captioning accessibility devices. That should be a pretty basic accommodation for a movie theater. Unfortunately, the devices were in terrible condition. We went through several of them — at least three or four — and each one had a problem. Some would not fit properly into the cup holder. Others snapped out of place when adjusted. On one of them, the screen portion actually popped off the end of the device. Because of all of this, we missed about the first 20 minutes of the movie. Separately, we had an issue getting into the theater because I could not access my email confirmation due to an unrelated EarthLink billing problem. That part was not Regal’s fault. The person at the front counter was polite and seemed to be doing his best, but the process still required a manager and added to the delay. The real issue here is Regal’s accessibility equipment. If a theater offers closed-captioning devices, they need to be functional, maintained, and ready to use. A guest with a hearing impairment should not have to test multiple broken devices, miss part of the movie, and deal with that level of frustration just to have the same experience everyone else is getting. The staff was not rude, but the equipment and process were unacceptable. This should not be happening, especially for guests who rely on accessibility accommodations.

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Whoever manages this theater is doing an excellent job! The team provided outstanding customer service, offering to help carry food into the theater, making sure we got the best deal, and greeting us as we walked in the door with a smile. This is my new go to theater in Cleveland!
