For the first time since 1929, when the most famous female bronc rider wound up dying after being thrown off during a rodeo, the American rodeo circuit opened up a women’s competition for bucking "broncs." Four fearless cowgirls who embrace the opportunity to prove something to themselves and the naysayers are featured. The goal in bronc riding is to stay in the saddle for eight seconds without getting thrown off. It’s a sport that teaches you how to take a hard fall and get back up again.
Each of these women enters the arena for different reasons. Bee, the oldest of the bunch and a seasoned veteran, is trying to provide for her son and hopes to win a buckle for him. Brooke, a relative newbie, is learning how to manage the pain that comes with the job. Lake seeks a distraction from past trauma. Ally, the most experienced of the group who has competed successfully in the mens' competitions, wants the life-changing payout. We follow them for several months on the circuit as they push their physical and mental limits to win a coveted spot at the showdown known as the Daddy of ’em All: Cheyenne Frontier Days, where one will be crowned World Champion.
