Ridiculous movie. World is ending and the unlikable characters are stressed that they won't be able to watch the last episode of the wretched sitcom Friends. Bad adaptation of a bad novel.

Stupid Will never get that wasted time back. Very disappointing especially with the caliber of actors. What were they thinking? Do they really believe that was a good script??? Maybe their egos are b\getting way too big for them.

It's a very slow burner. The more I think about it, the more layers it has. It starts out (like in the previews) a guy at the door saying it's his house. Then why is he back at his house? Is that legit? Is he there to kill them? Julia Roberta is the most skeptical and yet there's more to her and the guy who owns the house. The animals... that was odd and really could have went somewhere with that but didn't really. Kevin Bacon is the guy who helps them piece it all together all because his buddy got pamphlets already and in a different language. It does show the juxtaposition between a "friend" like Kevin Bacon and then a nobody like Ethan Hawke who the home owner is willing to help and basically save. The ending was a bit disappointing but also at the same time leaves the door open to a sequel so we can see what happens to the world, the son, the daughter, everyone. It does get really interesting and compelling and does raise a LOT of geopolitical, social and environmental questions.

If you give this crap more than a star , you didn't watch it , out side of a couple of good CGI effects how the heck they got the Stars in this tragedy to make this is beyond me ,, Spoiler alert , there is no ending ,, the writer just ran out of ink .. HUGE PASS .

This is disguised as a thriller but it's really a commentary on the state of the American public and the government. Basically, most people are only looking out for themselves without a care for anyone else, as evidenced by Kevin Bacon's character and especially the young daughter, who, when she finds an empty home, she gobbles down as much food as she can (she wasn't starving before, there was no lack of food) and then when she realizes her mother is frantically searching for her, explores the house some more and finds something that she's been longing for, which then supercedes any thought of her family, who are worried. You wouldn't have seen people acting like this in movies of the 1950s or '60s. If a kid found extra food and a safe place, he/she would report it back to the family right away, excited about seeing how thrilled and relieved they'd be. Sad times.

One of the best movies i saw this year,,this scenario could really happen.. i think it will happen in the future. i am going out next week to stock up on water, can meat, macaroni, batteries, a big generator, medicines and i almost forgot toilet paper. the only flaw i have with the movie is a tree branch came down and was lying near the house ....it looked like it was cut not broken off...come on prop department you can do better.

I don't know what the other reviewer saw, but this movie is fantastic. Julia Roberts in her best role in years. Ethan Hawke does his best concerned but flawed daddy part. Goes without saying the Mahershala Ali is shattering. Family books a weekend getaway at an Air BnB/Vrbo thing and slowly electronics and connections disappear. When the owners of the house show up to stay for safety sake, the awful truth of the situation comes out. See it!
